Social Bookmarking (Session 4)

One of my favorite Web 2.0 tools that I use regularly is Del.cio.us. If you are unfamilar with social bookmarking take a look at the presentation I gave at our 4th meeting (see below). Social bookmarking is an incredibly useful tool that educators can use to organize and share resources.

Agenda 1.11.08

In the presentation I explained what social bookmarking is as well as how it can be used. I then guided the cohort in creating a del.icio.us account by showing each step in the process on the SmartBoard. Each faculty member was able to follow along on their own computer. They chose a username and were able to create their own account. After we imported our bookmarks from internet explorer into del.icio.us, we then spent time using del.icio.us to bookmark and tag websites.

Overall, there was a lot of enthusiasm and I have noticed that the majority of the group is beginning to feel less intimidated by technology. Spending the majority of our time on hands on practice is helping the group become more comfortable in exploring and developing new skills. I think it is also helping to foster an appreciation for the way that technology can be used to support the education process. As always, I am looking forward to our next session!!
